Osterley Bowls Club

Think of “Bowls” and most people conjure up visions of Francis Drake on the eve of the Armada or old men in white flannels.

But did you know that the modern game of bowls is enjoyed by thousands of men and women of all ages – and young people too!

Bowls is a social game that can be as competitive as you want it to be – but most of all, its great fun to play.

Osterley Bowls Club, next to the library in St Marys Crescent, is a long established club that enjoys an active membership and plenty of competitive games internally and with other local clubs.

Starting in late April and running through to late summer, matches are played both at weekends and during the weekday afternoons – friendly, Hounslow & District or Chiltern & Thames leagues – it’s a great way to meet new people, participate in a sport that accommodates all abilities and to get out into the sunshine (British weather permitting of course!!).

There are internal competitions too but for most, Friday evening Club Night is the time to meet and play a relaxed game against fellow players, re-live recent games, enjoy a relaxing drink or just chill with a nice cup of tea watching others on the green.  Where required, coaching and help is always on hand for all members to improve.

And those white flannels?

Well, there are still some traditions that are upheld – like white trousers for weekend games – but during the week, its grey trousers for the men, skirts or slacks for the ladies, even shorts for all in the summer heat.  On Friday Club Night, dress code is relaxed and anything goes.

All you need is a pair of flat-soled shoes (bowls shoes have no tread pattern at all on the sole but any flat-soled soft shoe will get you started).  We have spare bowls and all the equipment you need to come and give the game a try.

Why not come by and have a go – we look forward to seeing you next Friday!

We're back!!!

The new season sees the green at St Mary's Crescent open from Friday 11th May from 6.30pm

Please come and join us and try your hand at Bowls - it's fun!!

We are Hounslow's friendly club so come and join us.

Wycombe House Cricket Club, Osterley offers a warm welcome to Bowls Club members during the winter

Outside of the regular bowls season, on the first Monday of the month, we have a social evening at nearby Wycombe House Cricket Club.  These are well attended as we stay in touch with friends until the season starts again.  Social membership to WHCC is not included in the Osterley Bowls Club membership fee but is a very reasonable £20 pa.

Quizzes, word games and other cerebal activities raise a few smiles whilst the more active members play darts or short-mat indoor bowls.  A full bar is available (at very good prices we should add) along with tea and coffee.

We use the exellent facilties and skills of Wycombe House for our AGM and the annual dinner which is a real highlight.
